In observance of Labor Day, Mello Disposal will not be picking up trash and recycling on Monday, September 3. All routes will be delayed one day. 

Hard to Dispose of Items and Where to Bring Them

Crow Lane Recycling Center is open the first Saturday of every month, 8 am to 12 pm. Call for additional weekday hours. 978-499-0413

  • Air conditioners, refrigerators, and dehumidifiers contain Freon. For pick-up call refrigeration company like Foucault Appliance for removal 978-372-6117 or bring to Crow Lane Recycling Center. Fees apply.
  • Antifreeze – Bring to Crow Lane Recycling Center, no fee.
  • Appliances – Bring to scrap metal dealer or to Crow Lane Recycling Center. Fees apply.
  • Asphalt, brick, concrete, or clean fill – Miles River, 978-356-2290
  • Automotive Fluids – Bring to HHW Day, September 12, 2015. Fee applies.
  • Batteries:  Bring to City Hall or Recycling Center on the first Saturday of every month,
  • Books – Donate to Newburyport Public Library for book sales , call 978-465-4428 for details.  Or take to used book store like Friend Street books in Amesbury or Jabberwocky for credit. If not able to donate or resell take to Recycle That container on Kent Street.
  • Cardboard – Bring large amounts to Crow Lane Recycling Center. Secure and bind small amounts and put curbside.
  • Carpets and rugs – Put out on trash day with bulk sticker that can be purchased for $5 each at City Hall in Health Department. Please cut and tie into 4-foot sections.  Only one item per week.
  • Cell phones and ink jet cartridges – Bring to Health Department in City Hall or to Crow Lane Recycling Center.
  • Clothing/Textiles – Old clothing, shoes, blankets, textiles, stuffed animal etc. leave in white recycling bins at Nock/Molin School or  Bresnahan  School Parking Lot or Yard Waste Facility.
  • Confidential Material – Save for next shredding day: Saturday, September 12, 2015 (16A Perry Way) or May 7, 2016 (Crow Lane).
  • Construction material, toilets and non-metal sinks and doors – Call disposal company like Mello Disposal,  978-352-8581.
  • Electronics – Bring to Crow Lane Recycling Center. Fee applies for larger items.
  • Fluorescent light bulbs – Bring to Crow Lane Recycling Center.*
  • Foam Plastics – Bring to Crow Lane Recycling Center.*
  • Furniture (non-metal) – Put out on trash day with bulk sticker that can be purchased at City Hall in the Recycling Department.
  • Gas grills – Remove propane tank and briquettes/rocks bring to scrap metal dealer or Recycling Center* first Saturday of the month.
  • Gutters – Aluminum gutters may be brought to scrap metal dealer or brought to Crow Lane Recycling Center.* Wood gutters may be brought to disposal company like G. Mello Disposal, 978-352-8581.
  • Helium Tanks – Bring to Crow Lane Recycling Center. Fees may apply.
  • Latex paints –  Remove lids, dry out paint, and throw in trash. Use kitty litter for fast drying.
  • Lumber – Call disposal company like G. Mello Disposal, 978-352-8581.
  • Mattress and boxspring – Call Recycling Department for a bulk sticker for $15 or for info on donating/recycling, call 978-499-0413
  • Medical Syringes/Lancets – Must be disposed of properly. See page 7.
  • Mercury products– Bring to Crow Lane Recycling Center.
  • Metal Goods – Appliances, bikes, water heaters, etc. scrap metal dealer or bring them to Crow Lane.
  • Microwaves – Bring to Crow Lane Recycling Center. Small fee applies.
  • Motor oil (used) – Bring to Crow Lane Recycling Center, no fee.
  • Oil-based paint – Bring to Household Hazardous Waste Day, September 12, 2015, 8am-12 pm, DPS. $3/gallons.
  • Plastic Bags –  All plastic bags must be recycled at supermarkets.
  • Propane tanks – Bring to Crow Lane Recycling Center. Fee applies.
  • Recyclables – Large quantities of recyclable containers and newspapers may be brought to Mello Disposal, 978-352-8581.
  • Solvents, chemicals, pesticides, etc – Bring to next Household Hazardous Waste Day (see page 3)  $3 per gallon. For other town HHW events  see City website.
  • Styrofoam food containers – must be wiped clean and have a #6. Please remove stickers/tape. Bring to the Recycling Center.
  • Styrofoam peanuts – Bring to Pak Mail, 25 Storey Ave, Nbpt. Must be clean and bagged.
  • Textiles – Old clothing, shoes, blankets, textiles, stuffed animal etc. leave in white recycling bins at Nock/Molin School or Bresnahan School Parking Lot or Yard Waste Facility.
  • Tires – Bring to Crow Lane Recycling Center.* $3 fee per tire.
  • Toxic/Hazardous Chemicals – Bring to Household Hazardous Waste Day on September 12, 2015.
  • Windows – Disposal company like Mello Disposal, 978-352-8581.
  • Wooden items – Large wooden items (other than furniture with bulk stickers from the Recycling Department) will not be accepted at the curb. Call a disposal company like Mello Disposal, 978-352-8581.

Rt. 95 South to Rte 133 Georgetown exit. Go right off exit into Georgetown. Drive  approximately 1 mile. The entrance for the Georgetown DPW and Mello Disposal Transfer Station will be on your left.
