Solid Waste Disposal Corporation Launches Information Security and Document Destruction Venture
February 2, 2007, Georgetown, Mass.— G. Mello Disposal Corp, a solid waste disposal and recycling company, is proud to announce the formation of Universal Shredding, LLC. The new venture, which is a subsidiary of G. Mello Disposal, will offer new and current customers the best options available for personal and professional security against identity theft and corporate fraud.
“Ever-growing regulations, consumer demands for protection of personal information and the need to protect corporate reputation make timely, secure shredding an essential part of any personal or professional records management program,” according to Gregory J. Mello, president of G. Mello Disposal.
Universal Shredding, LLC offers onsite, secure document destruction. Private information isn’t limited to bank statements and business contracts. Printed confidential materials are produced daily in every business and home—from credit card offers to cancelled checks, employee medical records to strategic planning documents. As the fastest-growing forms of fraud, identity theft and corporate espionage threaten to destroy personal credit ratings as well as business reputation and security.
“Information security has become a major consideration for everyone,” Jason Mello, president of Universal Shredding and director of operations for G. Mello Disposal Corp., said. “We know that most identity theft happens from what is known as ‘dumpster diving’ or people stealing identities by rummaging through trash. As a solid waste disposal company, we are especially aware of that threat and do whatever we can to protect our customers; however, customers need to have the option to protect themselves as well.”
The government currently mandates that all companies destroy any personal information on their customers, patients, employees, etc. Through HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), FACTA (Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act) and Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Modernization Act, the government is doing everything possible to help protect citizens; however, the best protection is to eliminate personal risk.
Universal Shredding’s onsite services include state-of-the-art mobile shredding units that utilize locked security bins and certified proof of destruction. All shredded material is then recycled. Companies are given locked Universal Shredding bins for weekly, bi-weekly or on-call shredding. Homeowners can call for pickup and watch as their personal materials are shredded for yearly clean outs, etc.
